Acts 11:25

  • Barnabas went and found Saul to help with the ministry in Antioch. These were men who were qualified to lead the Church.
    • Theological Principle: The Church needs qualified men as pastors/elders.

Acts 11:26a

  • For an entire year, they were gathered together with the church and taught. This refers to the public teaching of the Word to the church and typically what would normally be thought of as “Sunday Morning Preaching.”
    • Theological Principle: The Church needs qualified men as pastors/elders who prioritize the right teaching of the Word in the church’s public gatherings.

Acts 11:26b

  • The result of the yearlong public teaching ministry of Saul and Barnabas was that the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. That the intended outcome of the Commission of Christ resulted from following the instructions given by Christ should be no surprise.
    • Theological Principle: The Church needs qualified men as pastors/elders who prioritize the right teaching of the Word in the church’s public gatherings for the purpose of aiding the spiritual growth and maturity of believers.
